Lesson 1: Introduction – An introduction to the course and it’s structure by your tutor Jon Merritt

Lesson 2: Recording – Here we dispel some of the myths that surround vocal recording and we’ll look at tips to make the processing stage easier later on.

Lesson 3: Comping – Learn how to comp vocals and the different approaches you can take. Learn what to listen for and learn what you can do in this stage and the what you need to leave for the processing stage.

Lesson 4: Pitch Correction – What software to use, how far can you go with it and how to correct any errors the pitch correction software makes when it analyzes your vocals.

Lesson 5: Timing Correction – We look at finite editing of the vocal to remove any unwanted artefacts and how to use advanced editing to correct bad timing in the performance.

Lesson 6: Final Tuning with FX – We look at how far to go with FX processing, what FX to use, how much compression, EQ should be used. How to find problem frequencies and tame them, how to boost complementary frequencies, using De-essers.

Lesson 7: Vocal Mixing – We look at what the best approach for your track is. We’ll create width fatness and thicken up the vocals using double tracking and harmonies. Advanced group / bus mixing. Creating depth using various techniques and much more.

Lesson 8: Parallel Processing – Finding the best approach to parallel processing, using saturation and distortion to modify / thicken up the sound using ‘selective EQ parallel processing’ and much more.

Lesson 9: Double Tracking – We look at how to get extra takes to use for double and triple tracking using unused vocal takes or even creating double tracking tracks from one vocal recording.

Lesson 10: Layering Vocals with Plug-in Instruments – We look at how to extract MIDI information from a vocal take and then use a plug-in Instrument to fatten up the sound and or create a stylized vocal sound.

Lesson 11: Mix Your Vocals – We look at how to approach mixing your vocal in the final mix down along with vocal processing techniques to help you get the biggest sound possible and much more.
