VA - Sixties Top 100 Vol. 1 (4CD)


Een decennium dat mede ten grondslag lag aan de hedendaagse stijlen, invloeden en vrijheden waren de zestiger jaren. Maatschappelijke onrusten en verlangens naar verandering wakkerden de ontwikkelingen in de muziekindustrie aan. Elvis werd langzaam ingeruild voor The Beatles en de Rolling Stones. Het muzikale evenwicht verschoof geruime tijd van Amerika naar Engeland. Zaken die voorheen als onmogelijk, opruiend of ordinair bekend stonden, werden werkelijkheid en sleepten duizenden jongeren mee. Het hek was van de dam...

Muzikaal gezien bevonden zich de ontwikkelingen in een stroomversnelling, bandjes kwamen als paddenstoelen uit de grond. Met een beetje talent, inventiviteit en geluk kreeg een groep al snel een platendeal. Ook de verscheidenheid in genres nam toe en er werd buurtjeleen gespeeld met invloeden van heinde en verre. Universal probeert met de uitgaves Sixties Top 100 Volume 1 en Volume 2 een overzicht te geven van de muzikale uitspattingen die de geschiedenis in zijn gegaan, niet alleen internationaal maar ook nationaal. Zo opent Volume 1 met onze oude rot in het vak George Baker en zijn 'Little Green Bag'. Bijna "naadloos" gaat het geluid vervolgens over in 'Mr. Tambourine Man' van The Byrds, maar dit is juist het charmante aan deze releases. Het is als een jaren zestig radiostation waarop alleen maar "gouwe ouwe" voorbij komen. Bluesrock versus pop, soul versus surf en glam versus roots. Heb je een cd-wisselaar dan wordt het alleen nog maar onverwachter. Zingen Herman Hermit's nog braaf 'Mrs Brown You've Got A Nice Daughter' dan zingt de Spencer Davis Group al iets gewaagder 'Gimme Some Lovin''. 

Stijlsferen wisselen gemiddeld om de drie minuten, maar er komen louter hits voorbij. Niet alles zal iedereen kunnen bekoren, maar net zoals bij de Top2000 is het dan weer wachten op die volgende geniale plaat. Deze Sixties-verzamelaars zijn trouwens in samenwerking met Radio 2 tot stand gekomen. Er zijn helaas geen popquizjes of vergeten feitjes bijgevoegd, maar het jaren zestig gevoel wordt verdomd goed overgebracht op beide verzamelaars. Zowel Volume 1 als Volume 2 bestaat uit vier cd's met op elk 25 tracks van weleer. Jimi Hendrix Experience, The Beach Boys, David Bowie, Van Morrison, The Kinks, Cream, The Monkees, Procol Harum, The Troggs en The Animals zijn nog maar een fractie van de aanwezigen. Alleen The Beatles en de Stones ontbreken dan helaas. Het neemt echter niet weg dat het heerlijke compilaties zijn van grootheden uit de sixties.
