*** Enigma is een Duits new age muziekproject, gestart in 1990 door Michael Cretu, David Fairstein en Frank Peterson.

De in Roemenië geboren Cretu bedacht het Enigma project terwijl hij werkte in Duitsland, maar heeft zijn opnamestudio A.R.T. Studios op Ibiza in Spanje. Van begin jaren 1990 tot mei 2009 zijn hier alle opnames gemaakt voor de Enigma albums. Cretu is zowel de componist als producent van het project. Zijn ex-vrouw Sandra, zong regelmatig in diverse nummers. Jens Gad speelt gitaar op drie van de Enigma albums. ***
