Post Description

The job centre. S01e01. Documentaire.

It says a lot that The Job Centre's working title was Employing Yorkshire.
The tone of Channel 4's new documentary series certainly brings to mind their smash hit Educating Yorkshire, even if it's not as charming, following what happens once you're out of school and trying to find employment in the big bad world.
The show documents the goings-on at Candelisa People, a recruitment agency in Bradford run by Jane Vincent, who attempt to help those who are down and out get back on their feet. We meet Jane's team, including newcomer Phil who's under pressure to land a big contract, as well as the assortment of characters who come through their doors looking for new opportunities.
While The Job Centre covers a touchy subject - their clients include benefits claimers and migrants trying to find work - the overall tone of the show is one of welcome positivity. Candelisa comes across as a place full of hard workers, juggling the corporate machine while giving their clients the benefit of the doubt to find a fresh start.
